British Triathlon recently named Alistair Brownlee the Olympic Athlete of the Year for his outstanding finish at the London Olympics. He was also named the GE British Triathlon Male Elite Triathlete of the Year for the fifth time, while the female honours went to Helen Jenkins for the second consecutive time.
Alistair also joined younger brother Jonathan, as well as teammate Stuart Hayes in receiving the Peter Holmes Ward for Inspirational Performance in International Competition.
“Until the Olympics I never understood it when someone would say it takes a while to sink in, but it’s definitely taken a while to sink in. I didn’t know how I would feel when I crossed the finishing line because it’s a dream I’ve had since I was eight years old, but it’s finally sunk in now and I’m ready to move on and achieve some more targets,” Alistair said according to British Triathlon.
Georgia Taylor-Brown and Gordon Benson were recognized as the female and male Elite Junior Triathletes of the Year, while Faye McClelland and Iain Dawson were given the Tata Steel British Triathlon Paratriathlete of the Year awards. Find the full list of the Brithish Triathlon Annual Awards here.
